Sustainability Share Groups
A critical challenge to taking effective action on environmental sustainability is developing the necessary expertise to identify, evaluate and build the business rationale for adopting new practices. This is particularly true when initiatives cut across functional areas. To manage this challenge, particularly with our decentralized approach, Sobeys has established two national Sustainability Share Groups, one focused on warehousing and logistics and the other on our retail store operations. They are our accelerators, ensuring that we move more quickly to drive bigger results across more of our business.
Sustainability Share Group functions
The core functions of these groups are:
- Improving performance within each region by sharing and incorporating best practices from other regions,
- Accelerating evaluation and adoption of new practices,
- Adopting common measurement and reporting standards and systems, including those required to measure progress in the achievement of Sobeys’ corporate objectives,
- Influencing our approach to stakeholder engagement, including the review and adoption of standards where relevant, and
- Advancing implementation efforts, including employee education and communication.
