Reducing idling

Excessive idling wastes an enormous amount of fuel and money and generates greenhouse gas emissions.

The majority of our in-house and third-party service providers’ fleets are equipped with idle-reduction technology in order to reduce or eliminate excessive idling of vehicles and refrigerated trailers. Once a vehicle is parked, this technology automatically shuts off the vehicle’s engine after five minutes.

We have also introduced a no-idling policy in most of our distribution centres. This policy requires delivery drivers to turn off their vehicle’s engine while they wait for their trucks to be loaded or unloaded. To support this policy, the distribution centres have indoor waiting areas that provide delivery drivers with a comfortable area to wait while their vehicle is being loaded or unloaded.
