Distribution and logistics
Consistent with our 2013 national sustainability goals, our distribution and logistics management teams continue to take important measures to reduce the environmental impact of our operations and to save on the associated operating costs. Distribution centre management are focused on initiatives that support energy conservation, the reduction of refrigerant leak emissions and waste reduction, and our fleet managers are concentrated on conserving fuel through measures to increase the fuel efficiency of our fleet and reduce the kilometres travelled.
While these teams focus primarily on implementing sustainable measures directly related to their operations, as outlined in our first sustainability report, they also investigated new emissions and waste reduction opportunities and technologies. Their successes and challenges were shared company-wide to ensure that proven initiatives could be promptly implemented across the organization without the need to spend time or money on ineffective or unpractical solutions.
