Logistics/fleet management
Logistics/fleet management
We rely on fleets of corporate and third-party owned and operated vehicles to ensure we deliver fresh, high-quality food products to more than 1,300 stores in over 800 communities across the country.
During the past year, the vehicles in these fleets travelled approximately 75 million kilometres to deliver products from our distribution centres to our corporate, franchise and affiliated stores. This is equivalent to the total number of kilometres travelled annually by approximately 4,600* average Canadian drivers.
While we understand that the transportation of goods to stores has an environmental impact, it is a fundamental, irreplaceable part of our business. Since it cannot be eliminated, our focus is on continuously working to identify and implement ways to reduce the kilometres travelled, and on using equipment and technology that results in reduced transportation-related environmental impacts and costs. We work with our third-party fleet service providers to do the same.
*Statistics Canada – Canadian Vehicle Survey: Annual 2009 noted that Canadians drive their vehicles, on average, 16,249 kilometres during the year.
